Interstellar Autumn EP - Reviews

Tiny Voices

"Another year another..." I wonder how many January reviews will begin with that phrase? Answer in the comments section below please. So, in 1988 (if you were born then) what did you expect the music of 2006 to sound like? If you said, "like the theme from War Of The Worlds " then you'd be correct! Well done.

The Chemistry Experiment (TCE), a twee bunch of girls and boys from Nottingham, have melded Justin Hayward's apocalyptic ballad with Pink Floyd's 'Interstellar Overdrive' and called it 'Interstellar Autumn'. They've then chaotically released it as a double A-side with 'You're The Prettiest Thing' all rolled up onto an EP. Surely that must be illegal! 'Interstellar Autumn' is a carbon copy version of the 70's sci-fi classic with only a hint of the Floyd's instrumental odyssey and as such doesn't really require any more explanation, so there. It is, though, a delicate disguise of the indie-pop cravings that are revealed throughout the rest of this EP. 'You're The Prettiest Thing' is more customary fare for TCE, but stands out owing to the sweeping violins' air of grace.

The easiest and shortest way to describe any music, and therefore the method this lazy-arsed 'writer' will use, is to compare it to other music. In this case comparisons with Pulp, Belle And Sebastian and The Auteurs will not go amiss. Anybody not a fan of these bands will not be particularly keen on TCE's foppish style, but luckily my girlfriend is, so have a guess who'll be getting this EP as a present?

Question: Is the keyboard on 'Karin' taken from a Get Up Kids song?
